A statement to communicate total package of compensation
Regular salary/wages, bonuses, commission, equity, benefits, time off, holidays, etc

Questions & Answers - Sep 11, 2024
Joy Utubor 9:22 AM
Is what is listed on the checklist 100% required? For example, if we choose not to add benefit data
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:23 AM
@Joy not required, but if it isn’t set up it won’t show in the Total Rewards statement
Victoria Johnson 9:24 AM
Does the monetary value of time off show up for total rewards
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:26 AM
@Victoria it doesn’t. Katie will scroll down to the bottom here and you’ll see what it looks like. The reason for that is that it would double-count the value of time off. (For example, if an employee makes $100k a year and gets 10 days of time off they aren’t getting paid more when they take that time off)
Christina Hathorn 9:27 AM
If we don't use the benefits "add on" in Bamboo, can we still load benefits costs for the purpose of the total comp summary?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:28 AM
Yes you can! Benefit Tracking is a standard feature.
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:28 AM
Does the TRS include the value of paid holidays and PTO in the Total Annual Compensation? I ask because our PTO policy does not pay out at termination, meaning it is not added to total compensation
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:29 AM
@MaryAnn it doesn’t assign a dollar value to it, no. Just shows how much time off is offered.
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:29 AM
And paid holidays are also not in addition to annual earnings.
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:31 AM
Correct! Holidays will show up in the statement, but it will not have a dollar amount added.
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:30 AM
Are there plans to add commission/variable compensation to the TRS?
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:33 AM
Yes! We have a standard commission table that can be pulled into Total Rewards. We also have Bonus and Potential Bonus that you can add.
JoAnn Kaiser 9:30 AM
Is equity 401K match or no?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:33 AM
Not sure if I understand your question correctly, but the equity section isn’t to show 401k match, it’s to show equity in the company (if offered)
Ona Boczkowski 9:33 AM
Is this customizable? Can we add our additional benefits like uniform reimbursement, spousal insurance match
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:35 AM
Yes! Benefits>>Reimbuirsments pull into Total Rewards.
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:34 AM
With respect to this answer: Correct! Holidays will show up in the statement, but it will not have a dollar amount added.
Can you show the value of the PTO/Holidays but not add it? That is what we currently do in our manual TRS
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:35 AM
Not sure what you mean by “show the value but not add it”. Do you mean that it has a dollar value next to it at the bottom of the statement, but it doesn’t contribute to the total at the top? If so, right now that isn’t an option but love the idea :)
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:37 AM
Paul - yes, that is the exact idea. We feel it's important not just to mention PTO accruals and holidays paid but attach a value to those hours so that they understand better how much of their annual compensation is attached to hours they don't have to physically work
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:38 AM
Makes sense, thanks!
Joy Utubor 9:36 AM
Does the power edit (in general) add a new line or edit current? This would be helpful during comp cycles
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:38 AM
Great Question! Power Editing will add in a new line of data for all table data.
Debra Arrington 9:39 AM
Can you use the report function to project pay increases?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:41 AM
@Debra no, the statement pulls pay info from that compensation table in the job tab and that tab only has current and historical pay info
Joy Utubor 9:40 AM
If we are doing a power edit, and adding historical data. Can we add multiple lines at once for a single employee using this tool?
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:42 AM
Power Editing will add one line of data at a time. If you need to add multiple lines for many employees, then you will want to import the data instead.
Leslie Simmons 9:41 AM
Will tuition reimbursement appear for everyone or only those who used the benefit?
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:43 AM
Great Question! They will only see the plans that they are enrolled in.
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:42 AM
Can the equity section be utilized to show equity in different books of business? Equity is not based on overall company value, but on a specific client list. One might be zero, one might be 100%, a third might be 10% vesting for five years up to max of 50%.
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:49 AM
At this time, Equity is set up by overall company value. However, Grant types are set up on an individual level on each employee profile via the Equity table.
Casey Cox 9:42 AM
How does Benefits Administration handle ACA reporting?
This question has been answered live
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:46 AM
@Casey good question! I’d recommend checking out this help article for info on that https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/588016#BambooHR
Casey Cox 9:44 AM
We match HSA contributions. Where would I add this to show in the Total comp report?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:47 AM
Under the benefits section, that’s where it’ll show company contributions for employee benefits
Jonathan Beck 9:46 AM
if you are paying out commissions bi-weekly in payroll -how come they don't show up in the commissions areas in BambooHR?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:49 AM
@Jonathan good question. Right now the Total Rewards statement pulls commission info from that table in the job tab and that table doesn’t automatically update with payroll. Love that idea!
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:48 AM
Can I set up an access level for an external user to set up the benefits? We use a third party benefits admin company who uses Employee Navigator ... which does not currently integrate with BHR. I would like them to set up the benefits.
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:50 AM
Yes! You can create a custom access level for them, and add them in as a non employee user.
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:55 AM
We do not have a standard work week of 8 hours per day. Does this impact the TRS at all?
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 9:58 AM
If your employees are hourly, then the statement will have a sliding bar where they can adjust how much they work a week up to 40 hours. If they work less than 40 hours a week then they can adjust this. It does not matter how much they work a day.
Maiju Selva 9:55 AM
Does Bamboo have an integration with Ease
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:56 AM
Yes! More info about that here Ease - BambooHR Marketplace | Your Favorite Integrated HR Apps
MaryAnn Hutchinson 9:56 AM
Does BHR plan to build an integration with Employee Navigator
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:57 AM
It’s certainly one we hear from our customers often! We’re definitely exploring it
Debra Arrington 9:57 AM
Is there a way to project pay increases or run different scenarios?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:58 AM
The equity section in the statement is the only one where you can run different scenarios (based on estimated company valuation)
Casey Cox 9:58 AM
Our company offers these: Mileage benefit, phone & internet stipend or free service from company if in service area, and on-call pay. How can I ensure these categories are in Total Rewards?
Lark Curry (BambooHR) 10:00 AM
You can add these as Benefits under the Reimbursement category. If you have BambooHR Payroll, you can add it as recurring extra pay.
Questions & Answers - Sep 18 2024
Melissa Bear 9:02 AM
Can we exclude Benefits that the Company doesn't contribute to? (Example: Dental & Vision is 100% Employee Paid)
BambooHR 9:05 AM
If the company does not contriubte to the benefit, but the employee is enrolled in it, then the benefit will still show up in the statement, but no dollar amount is added.
Charis Weis 9:15 AM
Is there a way to estimate Total Rewards from the ATS when we're making an offer? There is a field for that in the offer template but I have to manually calculate (assuming they participate in the basic benefit offerings).
BambooHR 9:17 AM
Great Question! At this time, the Total Rewards statements can only be generated for current employees, therefore, there is not a way to generate statement for candidates.
Sherie Darden 9:19 AM
What if you only want them to view this during merit season and not all year long
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:19 AM
You can remove and activate employees from Total Rewards at any time. So if you want them to have it during merit season you can activate it for them then, then remove it until next year
Melissa Bear 9:19 AM
How to make the ER Mandatory Contribution of our Pension Plan shows on the Statement?
BambooHR 9:21 AM
The amount the employer pays to the benefit will show up in the statement. Please let me know if I misunderstood your question!
Melissa Bear 9:22 AM
I see my Total Rewards Statement, but it doesn't show the ER Contribution on it. Does it combine both the EE and ER Mandatory Contribution?
BambooHR 9:25 AM
It will just show the Employer Contribution in the statement. Make sure the benefit is set up correctly.
Melissa Bear 9:34 AM
Interesting because when I add up my mandatory and the EE Mandatory the amount on Total Rewards is larger than the two added up. How to find out what's going on?
Melissa Bear 9:41 AM
Yes, ER Contribution is 11.2% and EE Contribution is 3%. Looking at my latest pay statement those amounts YTD are: EE $1,040.64 with ER $3885.24 = $4925.88 - but my Total Rewards Statement shows $5381.12, so I'm confused.
Melissa Bear 9:45 AM
I wish the EE and ER Mandatory could be separated as I don't necessarily want the EE to see their contribution, just the ER.
BambooHR 9:49 AM
In the statement, it will show how much the Employer contributes. They will see the employee amount on their benefits tab.
Melissa Bear 9:50 AM
But the amount doesn't match what the ER has paid so how can it be verified for accuracy?
Melissa Bear 9:59 AM
I don't think that it's been clear, that iTOTAL REWARDS is a general idea of the rewards, not the actual as of the date it is viewed.
Janine Gregory 9:23 AM
We provide a gym membership (at no cost to our employees). Should I set this up as an 'Other' plan? How do I set it up to display the value of this benefit...since there's no deduction.
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:24 AM
Yes! You could set it up under “other” or under “reimbursement” if it’s something the employee pays for initially then is reimbursed by the company
Janine Gregory 9:26 AM
The gym membership is 'free'...no charge or reimbursement to the employees...
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:27 AM
That’s a great benefit! Yep I’d set it up under other then.
Ona Boczkowski 9:24 AM
Sorry if I missed this but can we include Education Reimbursement in total rewards?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:26 AM
Yes you can! You can add reimbursements fromt the benefits tab on an employee’s profile. Here’s more info about that: https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1717245
Alex Au 9:24 AM
Do we have section to input for education reimbursement/ fitness/cellphone/ public transit allowance?
BambooHR 9:26 AM
Yes, you can use the reimbursement benefit plan type and it will show up in the statement. If you use our Payroll, you can add it as a recurring extra pay and it will pull in.
Janine Gregory 9:26 AM
The gym membership is 'free'...no charge or reimbursement to the employees...
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:27 AM
That’s a great benefit! Yep I’d set it up under other then.
JoAnn Kaiser 9:29 AM
Our vacation works by number of years of employment how do you continually increase it to show on total rewards
BambooHR 9:33 AM
Great Question! The statments will look at your policy rules that you set up in time off. If the policy has milestones where they get more time off after x amount of years, then it will pull that amount into the statement as soon as they hit that milestone.
Yvette Wasko 9:35 AM
Would paid meal breaks be considered a perk we could show and account for? Also we offer a premium incentive as part of our wellness program for those who participate. How might we show that?
BambooHR 9:45 AM
We do not have a specfic location for paid meal breaks. Do they get the meal breaks every day or only sometimes? Can you tell me a little bit more about how your premium incentive works?
Yvette Wasko 9:48 AM
If scheduled work hours would be long enough for a meal break, will get 30 minute paid meal break with no need to account for that on the timesheet. For example, someone working 8 hours would just be scheduled for 8 hours and can take the 30 minute break in that 8-hour time period without the need to clock out for it.
BambooHR 9:51 AM
Gotcha! For your specfic situation, you could add in a time off category called "Paid Break" and then it will pull into the statement, but if you do not currently track this via time off, then I would not add it. Instead, this will need to be communicated outside of the statement.
Melissa Bear 9:47 AM
Does the Total Rewards Statement automatically update after each payroll with the YTD Info?
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:50 AM
Good quesiton! It does not. Right now the statement only pulls from that info in the tables of an employee’s profile. So when those tables are updated, the statement updates.
Ona Boczkowski 9:47 AM
Will we get this all after the lab? I would like the slides and links to review at my own pace as well
Paul Swenson (BambooHR) 9:48 AM
Yes! You’ll get an email with this recording and can access the chat as well. All the resources Katie is sharing are availabe in BambooHR Learning, which she is sharing now. You can get there by clicking the “?” in the top right corner of your BambooHR account
Yvette Wasko 9:48 AM

For those enrolled in the health insurance and participate in our wellness program, will receive a premium incentive of $25/pay. Meaning they can get $25 off what their share of the premium would be ($50 if have an enrolled spouse).
Yvette Wasko 9:58 AM
But I'd like to show it as the wellness premium incentive for participation in the program as not everyone participates.
BambooHR 10:01 AM
You could add it in as a reimbursement so that it shows that the specific benefit if it applies to them
Yvette Wasko 10:02 AM
Ok I may look at either doing it that way or add as Other plan. Thanks
Cheryl Leonard 9:59 AM
I believe you said the statement can be included in the New Hire packet - does it become available when we set a candidate to Hired?
No, the statement could be added an an onboarding task to remind HR to manually enable the statement for new hires.
Bethani Levine 10:00 AM
In the example Katie shared today, it was actually the company's compensation strategy doc that was shared in the new hire packet. The Total Rewards statement isn't included in the new hire packet, but you can make it available to an employee after they're hired by adding them in Settings, and then they'll see it when they have access to BambooHR.
JoAnn Kaiser 9:59 AM
How do I set those milestones? I don't believe I did that when I entered time off or tell me where I can get that information
This question has been answered live
To set up milestones, navigate to Settings - Time off. If you go into a policy, you can add milestones, which will automatically update in total rewards

What are you listing under Equity in the chart for total comp?
There are different options of grant types that you can list under Equity. This help guide will walk you through setting up Equity. https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1717791
How many hours are you using to estimate total hourly pay?
We use 2080 hours (40hours per week) in our total comp reports.
It’s good to note that there is also an hourly calculator in total rewards so employees can see what they would make with different hours worked. You can learn more about that here https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1717243#salary-vs-hourly-compensation
How can I include non-recurring items like: gas cards, career certifications, one -off CPE or recognition "points" redeemed for gift cards?
These are considered "Perks". As long as the amount of the perk is in their profile as a benefit, they will show up in the Total Rewards statement, even if they only occur once.
does that mean I need to add a benefit plan for each of these perks?
can comp be adjusted for those who work less than 40 hours per week
Yes, hourly employees will have a hour calculator as part of their total rewards statement where they can adjust the number of hours they work and the pay will be reflected. You can learn more about this works here: https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1717243#salary-vs-hourly-compensation
If a company has added customized field in the compensation tab,can these elements be included in the total rewards statement?
Currently, the total rewards statement only pulls from the standard tables for compensation and not any custom fields or tables. So it’s important that you use the standard tables to record this information for total rewards.
What is Equity in regsrds to Total Rewards
Equity is shares in the company.
Will the equity section work for non-US companies?
Yes, it will. Equity is not a US only part of Total Rewards.
How do you put a value on unlimited PTO?
When offering unlimited PTO you won't need to have a set "value". In the time off summary employees will be able to see this as a benefit that you offer, knowing that it is unlimited.
Can you populate benefits data if you are not using the Benefits Module in BambooHR to be on the Total Rewards statement?
Yes, you can! You can input all of your benefits data in the Benefits Tracking feature in your account. Benefits Tracking is included as part of your plan and allows you to track not only the company and employee contributions per paycheck, but eligibility as well. This will send employees and administrators a notification when employees become eligible for benefits after a waiting period.
Is there a guide in help on how to use Benefits Tracking Or an online recorded course
Are we going to see the actual PDF?
Katie will be showing many aspects of Total Rewards today, but if you’re curious on what the statement looks like from the employee view, you can check out this article here: https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1663789
Will there be a feature in the future where the commission listed on they paystub is automatically entered in the Job Commission tab so I don't have to do it manually each month?
We are new to Bamboo and currently implementing the Payroll module. I am very curious as to the answer to this question!
Can you add other pay elements (for example company car, etc)?
How do we show personal days off that are in addition to vacation days. is this a seperate line?
As long as "Personal Days" is a time off policy in BambooHR, you will be able to include as a separate line in Total Rewards.
Is there a way to show company contributions to 401k
Yes! This will be reflected as part of employe benefits. If you have your 401k match recorded as an employee benefit in BambooHR, it’ll appear in the total rewards statement.
We only record on target bonuses in Bamboo - not the actual payments made - can we still have that in Rewards?
The Total Rewards statement will only show what you have recorded in BambooHR (So in your case the target bonuses). However you can set up a custom disclaimer for the rewards statement if you’d like to bring that information about bonuses to your employee’s attention. https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1717242#total-rewards-custom-disclaimer
Can the additional Pay in Total Rewards not be shown?
if I have my payroll which is being done from another system. Can I transfer the data from one system to BambooHR?
Great question Sylvain. We do have integrations with several Payroll providers and you can find out about those here: Payroll - BambooHR Marketplace | Your Favorite Integrated HR Apps
You can also import data into BambooHR. You can learn more about that process here: https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/711330
can you customize access - only leadership team has stock options not other employees can we just show it to a certain group?
Yes! The stock options will be input on the employees' profiles who are included. When the Total Rewards statement is run, the Stock Option will only show on those employees' statements.
We have custom tables for base compensation and variable compensation - can these be pulled into Rewards?
Currently only standard tables are able to be pulled into total rewards. Custom tables are not able to be included into the statement.
Do benefits include 401K contributions / matching?
Yes! You can have these all setup in benefits.
We run on a 7/1-/6/30 fiscal year. Is it possible to change the reporting dates to match our needs?
I have created 3 benefits plans with end dates of 12/31/2025 and have enrolled employees in it, however, the data does not show on our Total Rewards statements. What am I doing wrong?
If you haven't already, you will need to input the information in the benefit plan itself. For example, if a vision benefit has a total monthly cost of $50.00 and the company pays $40.00 and the employee pays $10.00, you would input that into the set up of the benefit itself. Also, you will want to state what the per paycheck deduction amount is. In this example, the employee would pay $5.00 per paycheck and the company would pay $20.00 per paycheck.
These are items that the company pays for directly rather than a reimbursement.
Vacation Time
Sick Leave
Floating Holidays
You can set up any of those time off types to be included in total rewards. You can learn more about this here: https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1717246
Can we get a PDF example of the Total Rewards summary before impementing to be sure it's something our leadership team wants?
You can always start by adding just yourself to the total rewards feature and then make sure that everything looks correct before enabling it for more individuals.
can professional development funds be added as a benefit in the statement?
Any benefits that you want within the statement, be sure to just set up in your Benefits Settings of your account :)
The types of "benefits" I can set up are mostly health or retirement related.
Same with time off ? It will automatically pick up whoever has that correct ?
Correct!
I want to include the value of the benefit but do not want to pay them for this amount
On the TR statement for benefits, how do you ensure it adds in coverage details? Ours only show the url instead of additional info like shown in the demo.
can you set up multiple rewards within the organization if you have different pay groups?
Each employee will have their own total rewards statement custom to them based on their pay, bonuses, benefits, ect.
Can you create separate holiday lists for different regions in the world?
Yes! When you create custom holidays in your account you can customize who it applies to using the "This Holiday is for" filter field during the setup. See this help article for more info: https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/587312#add-a-custom-company-holiday
Is there a tab/setion to add non-financial perks such as free parking, free snacks, paid sports?
Can you wait to share the TR statements with employees on a certain date each year? How often is the data updated?
You can only enable or disable the availibility of total rewards, but it is constantly updated based on the information found in the tables that Katie talked about earlier.
Can the $ be updated for things like company contributions to an IRA for the year?
Yes! As soon as you update the benefits or compensation in BambooHR the total rewards statement is automatically updated.
Can I add commission to just some employees?
Yes, you can! On the Job Tab, you will add the commission amount to only the employees who receive it. That amount will show on those employees' statements only.
Do I need to set up different access levels for people with commission? Because I have everyone under one level right now except managers.
Please provide a sample downloadable total rewards report so I can share with stakeholders to make the case for all the work it will take to prepare our account
You can see an example of the Total Rewards downloadable here in this help article: https://help.bamboohr.com/s/article/1663789
Is the benefits section only for US employees?
The Benefits Tracking feature is available to all BambooHR customers globally. The "Benefits Administration" add-on feature is only available in the US.
Is it possible to have the equity value in other currencies other than USD? I have employees in multiple countries paid in various local currencies. The equity value on the total rewards statements however is only available in USD thus the total rewards value is an incorrect figure
Yes, but it has to be all the same currency on the report
Can this be set up to make offeres to new Hires in the hiring tab?
Is there anyway to create this for a job offer without the person getting an email notification?
This cannot be used within the hiring feature when creating a job offer at this time.
Is there a way to prepare the total comp statements and review them before the employee receives them? We don't want to show the EE until we have done our annual review.
Yes! Employees will not have access to view the Total Rewards statement until access is given to them.
In which Tab & Table can I add a one time perk that is paid directly by the company so that I can reflect the value without paying the employee?
I would suggest setting this up as a benefit in your Benefit Settings.
So we could enable it once a year and then download the reports and then disable it again?
Yes, you can!
I've been adding Bonus pay on the Pay info tab this both records the type of pay and pays the employee. Does the Bonus table in the Job Tab have the same funtionality
Can we turn this off? We don't track leave, or use benefits or payroll in Bamboo right now.
Yes. You can leave the feature turned off if you don't plan on using it.
Will it be added to the hiring feature in the near future?
Great question. I can’t speak to how soon a feature will or will not be added to BambooHR, but if you’d like to suggest this to our product team, you can do that here: https://docs.google.com/a/
bamboohr.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd0Oouq3T3ADdz5iolJedkrcUAOUiPg9rkNdNQz3euo2vA6wg/viewformIs Benefits tracking inside Benefits Admin?
No. Benefits will be under your main account settings (gear icon in upper right hand corner) then Benefits in the middle column :)
Just to confirm: for reimbursements it will only show the maximum amount they could be reimbursed for, not what the actual reimbursements are, is that correct?
